Album Review - “Intuition” by Jamie Foxx

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

With my Zune Pass (a monthly subscription from Microsoft that allows you to freely download unlimited music) I love to listen to all the albums that come out each week.  I have a wide range of music that I like, so I’d like to use my blog to post reviews of artists, albums, and individual singles.  So with the introduction here’s my first review.

Jamie Foxx - “Intuition”

Label: J-Records

Collaborations with: T.I., Lil Wayne, Ne-yo, T-Pain, Fabulous, The Dream, Marsha Ambrosius

Intuition is Jamie Foxx’s third album.  His last album “Unpredictable” was a double platinum sensation.  With Intuition, I think Jamie Foxx refines his sound.  His vocals are more crisp and the beats are more “hip”.  The first release “She Got her Own” was originally to be a remix for Ne-yo and ironically includes him on the track. Its hot, and raising up the urban charts.  My favorite track so far is “Number 1″, a collaboration with Lil Wayne.  This album doesn’t have that ballot feel like unpredictable. It has more of a club feel.  However it does have it’s ballots.  “Why” ,”Weekend Lover”,  “Rainman” are a few and are all at the end of the album.  I like this one more that Unpredictable.  Other tracks that are hot and could be radio hits are; “Just like Me”  (featuring T.I) and “Blame it”  (featuring T-Pain).  Overall there’s not a bad track on the whole album.  The ballots are good, it has the new age synthesized sound and an A List of collaborators.  I highly recommend “Intuition”

Snow in Vegas means Global warming……huh?

Personally I think that cold weather is useless.  The more tropical it is the better.  So if man was causing the earth to warm then let’s make it warmer.   I think man made  global warming is a myth because man’s tiny existence has  had little to no effect on the climate.  Volcanoes and other natural entities pump out far more greenhouse gases  every year than we can do in a life time.  Now the climate Nazis are trying to tell use that because its getting colder that’s a sign that the earth is warming.  I’m not a meteorologist but if turn my air conditioning and it works,  my house will get colder, not warmer.    Folks, it’s snowing in Vegas, Arizona, and Malibu for pete’s sakes.   There’s no doubt that through out history,  the earth’s climate has changed.  My point is, would carbon credits have stopped the Ice Age?  Did the S.U.V. kill the dinosaurs?    I read an article that said that man made CO2 emissions account for any between 1 to 3% of all greenhouse gases in the air.  Should we be aware of the environment, Yes.  But implementing wacky environmental policies that makes it harder for business in the name of preventing global warming is idiotic.

Question: Does anyone remember that hole in the ozone over the North Atlantic that was all the environmental rave in the early 80’s and was suppose to bring death and destruction?  Whoops, it closed, the atmosphere healed itself…..oh well.

Are “YOU” an individual

I went to a concert yesterday and as I was driving to the venue I passed through an area known as the “Loop.”  I thought of a  question that I had in the past about what makes someone an individual.  This came up again because this area is known for  liberal, artsy fartsy, alternative types who say they are a certain way because they are being themselves and not conforming to the norm.   What intrigues me is that if a person hangs out in area where everyone dress, believes, and behaves in the same exact manner, can they claim to be individuals?

If you are an musician, keeping with the concert theme, and you have the typical long hair, tattoos, and piercings, aren’t you conforming to a stereotypical image of what a musician is?  In my opinion an individual in the true sense is a person who’s in a rock band but clean cut.  Not to say that means the typical musicians aren’t being individuals, but my point is just because you are not “normal” that doesn’t make you an individual.  It takes being yourself despite stereotypes.

I don’t know, maybe I’m thinking too deeply on the subject.

Site protection to the rescue

I’ve finally managed to protect my site’s forum and blog from the world of spam.  My forum was getting hit at least 10 times daily with porn spam.  My blog was getting hit by regular ad spam, but now its all in the past baby.  Now someone please come read it :( and write to my forum.

Disturbed concert is tonight so hopefully the weather doesn’t cripple the streets.

Athletes v. Entertainers

This morning I caught a bit of the Mike and Mike Morning show and the topic was “Why do fans have so much anomosity towards athletes’ salaries and none for entertainers who make nearly the same.”  I have a few reasons for why I think this is so.  First, the average sports fan is much more passionate about their team and their players than the average fan of movie stars or rock bands.  Sports fans look at their team and players almost as family.  We (I am an avid sports fan) follow religiously every game, every play, thus we become personally attached.

On the other hand, as a movie and music fan I don’t follow every move and step of say my favorite band (Smashing Pumpkins) or my favorite actor (Robert DeNiro).  Although I do keep up with there work and critic their preformances, I wouldn’t say that I take a bad or good preformance to heart.  I simply say “that sucked” or I say “Wow that was off the chain.”

Second, the thrill of competition further complicates the matter.  With entertainers we can debate “who’s the best.”  We all know we have had some heated discussion over which band is better.  Except with the few irrelevant award shows entertainers don’t go head to head in an arena of battle.  It will always be abitray as to who’s the best band or actor.  With sports fans choose sides. We like the fact that it’s “my team” v. “your team.” We love the finality of the big game.  At the end of our experience there’s a definite winner and loser.  So with athletes there’s more at stake at the end of the day.

The other aspect that makes us more critical about athlete’s salaries is the fact that they can go to the other team.  When an athlete leaves “your team” to go to another or even worse a rival, we feel betrayed.  It’s hard for us to except that for a mere million or two dollars, an athlete would betray our loyal following.  We think now our team will suffer and there will be no more victory celebrations.  What do I do with that $85 dollar jersey with his name on the back, he’s no longer on the team?  There’s just not as much involvement outside of their performance with entertainers.  If I buy a Smashing Pumpkins t-shirt, even if the band breaks up or if Billy Corgan starts a new band, now that shirt is a collector’s item.  That jersey with my favorite players name on it that is no longer on the team is useless.  Its a little embarassing to wear it to the game.

So my point is, the reason I think we are more critical of athletes who sign for big money is that sports fans are much more involved in interactivity of sports.  The dymanic between a sports fan and the athletics he or she follows is more indepth that then music or movie fan.  Not to say that music and movie fans aren’t just as passionate, I believe that sports fans have a personal relationship with their favorite sports team and athletes.
