One of the big political footballs being thrown around now is Obama’s action on keeping his promise made to Planned Parenthood by signing the Freedom of Choice Act. As a Catholic, Conservative, Human Being, I’m against abortion. I can not belittle the preciousness of life as a choice. A life is valuable. Promoting life is essential to the well being of any society. Promoting death can only lead to the downfall of integrity and intellect of a society.

Proponents argue that it is a “woman’s choice” as to what she does with her body. I couldn’t agree more! However, when her body is carrying another then she has a responsibility to that other body. A fetus is a human body. You can argue on the religious aspect of a fetus, but a it has a heartbeat at only three weeks.

I also think abortion absolves people of responsibility. The right to choice should be upheld, but again, the choice has to be made before the consequence. If you are not ready to deal with the possibility of have a child then choose not to have sex. We all know that condoms nor the pill are 100% effective in stopping a pregnancy, so why should you not be held responsible for your action. The government, rightfully so, says a man has no choice but to provide support for a child he helped create. As the bearers of life, it should not be a choice when it comes to women providing prenatal support for the child she helped created.

It was wonderful to see the rare birth of octuplets by a women in California. These babies aren’t guaranteed a good life. There will be many obstacles for this wonderful children. Our constitution guarantees “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” Some of us will do more with our lives than others. The important thing is that we will have a chance. Instead of the Freedom of Choice Act, we need the Freedom of Chance Act.
